Upped by request. I've never been a fan of Eyeless in Gaza or his solo stuff, but there's something about Martyn Bates voice that matches so well with a dark feel. Anyone who enjoyed the Murder Ballads should definitely check this out, and vice versa.
Upped by request. This album runs the gamut of everything dark ambient should be. Two main founders of this genre teaming up on a classic.
Upped by request. Average kbs of 95 or so, but it's v2. Kind of strange.

Aidan Baker is an excellent musician. He does a lot of styles well, but most of his solo stuff is drone. Very clean.

Celer is an incredibly underrated drone group. It's a married couple that individually distributes all their work. They have a huge catalog of stuff ranging from minimalism to what most people would consider post-rock. This is their most acclaimed (and recent) release, and I would imagine any fan of the ambient genre could find some substance in this album. Fans of Windy & Carl and Stars of the Lid should definitely check them out.

I picked this up from a waffles article a while back and just listened to it this morning. I can't stop! This guy is almost like a Turkish version of Donovan, and these tracks are like candy. Basically recommended to anyone who trusts my taste in music.
I'll just leave this here...
Andreas Tillander is well known for his work in IDM and Glitch, but this is his first ambient release I've found listenable. Huge swells and drones that sound distant.
